Loads of fun as always, I’m busily writing my own dot net based tools for Dnd 4e at the moment. I’ll let you know if get them done before wizards, lol. I’m not going to their extent of 3d characters and 3d world but time permitting I may have a few interesting things to present (probably in line with rp’s offerring but with my own twist to it).
If you get a chance check out the penny arcade on the dnd podcast, it’s great fun.
After listening for the 4th time I was thinking about monsterpocalypse I agree with Tim that maybe PP is maybe trying to crack the Japanise or Asian market. What do you think? To me that market is huge and it’s one that wargame companies dont target.
That is a really good point, and I think it explains the clear ‘power ranger’ asthetic of the syndicate faction a bit. If they can be the first to break into the japanese market that could be huge for them. Japanese kids are obsessive about their hobbies in the extreme and even a small penetration into that market could propel PP into the realm of the WOTC / GW level very quickly.
talking about balance in WM it really seemed like ‘well there are broken things but everyone has access to something just as broken’
u can claim this for warhammer (i dont play 40k) as well, empire brings 2stank and a popemobile, HE bring star dragon and 4 RBT and white lions etc, dwarfs bring a gunline, demons bring a crazy GDs, vampires bring regen deathstar, WE bring 2 treemen, skaven bring warplighting, brets bring RAF.
so really if everyone was bringing these lists the game would be balanced?
a couple of other things:
-PP isnt publically traded GW is
-PP doesnt run its own stores GW does
this means there is much more added pressure on GW than on PP.
Love the show, more please ^^
In case anyone was wondering, I am pretty sure that the 6th faction in Monsterpocalypse are the Martians(from Mars). There is an article about them in the May Game Trade Magazine. Their goal is to extort Earth of is resources and the history of the faction plays into all the stories about Roswell and government conspiracies.
Monsterpocalypse may also have a humorous side based on some of the quotes in the two faction profiles in this magazine.
I just wanted to comment a bit on the brief Gamesday coverage. I have never listened to 40k Radio, but you gave them much credit for their groundbreaking work in giving coverage and access for gaming fans. I just want to point out that Fell Calls has been doing this for years in their Fell Calls podcast. You even had them on your show, and I think it was a bit of a slight to their work.
They’ve been casting for 3 years with 150 episodes, and that coverage has featured interviews with people at every level of Privateer from cons and from guest appearances, shows recorded at GenCon, shows recording seminars from GenCon, and more.
I think they deserve some credit for their work, just as the 40k Radio guys do too.
Thanks,
Munchezuma
@ Munchezuma
You are absolutely right. I will make special note of that on my next show and I hope you don’t mind if I read your comment as a lead in. Thank you for bringing that to my attention. I have only recently become a fan of their show and the guys did not get a chance to hear the interview or they may have mentioned that themselves.
Thanks again for the comment.
Big Troy
Another great podcast even though it is the AT-43 podcast that I am really looking forward to. Still, hearing more about the 5th edition of 40k has piqued my interest so I think that I am at least going to be picking up the boxed set. That is just too many minis to pass up in my opinion!
As far as Monsterpocalypse, you mentioned that people were really excited about it at GAMA this year. I heard on another podcast which is hosted by a retailer who attended GAMA that people seemed to be interested until they actually had a chance to check it out. The impression was that once people had a chance to really check it out they just weren’t as excited about it. Regardless, it will be interesting to see what happens when it comes out but I must admit that the more I see the less impressed I am.
Keep up the great work and I hope the Damocles Report will be coming out soon!
Speaking of Monsterpocalypse a good scene that would get you in to it is in hot fuzz. The fight scene between nic angel and skinner at the end. lol
